Now that The Dark Knight has been out for over three weekends, and still running strong at the box office, we are sad to report on the Morgan Freeman car accident. Morgan Freeman is in good condition, after being pried from his car with the jaws of life. The car crash caused the 71 year old to suffer a broken arm, elbow, and a bruised shoulder. Freeman was driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima which belonged to Demaris Meyer, of Memphis, when the car left a rural highway and overturned several times. Both Freeman and Ms Meyer were wearing seatbelts. There is still no information on Ms Meyer’s condition. Freeman was airlifted from the accident scene to the hospital, around 90 miles away in Memphis, Tennessee, where he is being treated.
We wish Mr. Freeman a solid recovery, especially since we have heard rumors of Batman 3 on the horizon. Christopher Nolan has stated an interest in the extensive and elaborate 70 year history of Batman, particularly the interesting parts that have not yet been in the movies or the sixties television show. No secrets have been shed about plot, or characters but, The Riddler, The Penguin and Catwoman are all villains that have been bandied about as potentials for the next movie. I would love to see Batman three starring Johnny Depp as The Riddler, Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin, and Angelina Jolie as Catwoman.

The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins, was the top film for a third weekend at U.S. and Canadian theaters, pulling in $43.8 million in ticket sales and beginning to show that it can be a challenger for the all-time U.S. box office record.
Dark Knight has a ways to go before surpassing the $600.8 million U.S. box office record set in 1997 by Titanic. In its first two weeks, The Dark Knight has taken in more than twice the ticket sales as Titanic. That being said, we also must add that The Dark Knight would need to take in $900 million to match the number of tickets sold to Titanic.
The current gross income for batman The Dark Knight total sales at $394.9 million and will likely reach $400 million in U.S. box office sales in record time. Shrek 2 achieved that milestone in 43 days and holds the current box office record.
Even with much competition from Brendan Fraser’s the mummy taking in $15.3m this friday and batman only bringing in $12.65. The Dark Knight came back strong on Saturday - Batman returned to the top with a take of $17.4m against Tomb of the Dragon Emperor’s $14.7m.

The weekend figures added another $43.8m to The Dark Knight total and brought it within touching distance of the coveted $400m record. The Dark Knight also has taken in $202.5 million overseas, and will be opening in six more markets in August, among them Japan, France and Russia.
